Aesthetic Upgrade

Clockwork Goldfish finally has a logo, and we've improved the look of the site a bit (at least I think so). It's still far from polished, but, you know, baby steps.

I know the logo has an ugly box around it in IE 6, but I'm finding it hard to care about such an old browser. If you still haven't upgraded your browser, and that box is bothering you, let me know... otherwise I just won't bother.

Get Satisfaction

I've set up a forum on Get Satisfaction for Clockwork Goldfish, in case you run across any issues or just want to discuss.

I realize there hasn't been a lot of action over here (though it's great to see everyone playing!); I've been busy on another project: Gimme Shiny. I do intend to continue work on Clockwork Goldfish one of these days, upgrading the look (which is obviously a bit minimal so far), adding new puzzle types, etc. Come to think of it, that's another great use for Get Satisfaction: feature requests!

More Improvements

Slow and steady we're making improvements to the site...

It now records which scenarios you've won (if you're logged in). Handy for keeping track of where you've been, or just for showing off.

We've also updated the Figure Ground creation tools so you can make scenarios for any of the four levels. In the process, we've made the level distinctions clearer throughout the site. For more on the different levels, see the about page.

Happy puzzling!

Creation Tools, First Draft

OK, now I've got basic account creation and scenario creation working. It's still not terribly pretty, and you can only create two-color scenarios, but it's a start! Give it a spin, make some puzzles, and let me know you think. In the meantime, I'll keep working on it.

Goldfish Rising

For the computer game Heaven & Earth, Scott Kim invented 12 new puzzle types, each with 4 variations. To help us make all the scenarios (over 600 in all!), I built a set of tools. The whole team got in on the action, creating scenarios, critiquing scenarios, and being inspired by each other's creations. I've often wanted to revisit that experience and make it available to a wider audience.

Now, with the Web as my platform, I'm doing just that, starting with Figure Ground, one of the original Heaven & Earth puzzles (used by kind permission of Michael Sandige, who holds the copyright for the game). It's not much to look at yet, and you can't actually create new scenarios, but you can play the original 48. Over time I plan to beautify the site and add creation tools, community features, and additional games (some from Heaven & Earth, some not).

In the meantime, I'd love to hear what you think! Please post critiques, bug reports, feature requests here. Also, if you're interested in helping out with the design or development of the site, drop me a line.

Happy puzzling!
